Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Younis, said Egypt is prepared to launch an ambitious program for generating electricity from nuclear energy. He said Egypt is in need of a big program including a bigger number than the eight stations the ancient program was including when it was suspended in the 1980s, of the past century. In press statements, Younis said all files of the station project are available, adding that each file will be opened in time. He said Egypt's nuclear energy scientists abroad would assist the Egyptian program. The minister said the needs of the succeeding generation from energy will be discussed by the Supreme Council of Energy in the upcoming stage in line with President Mubarak's vision. The minister of electricity said no country has the right to object to Egypt's peaceful nuclear energy, adding that the rejection by any state is ruled out as our program is clear cut and transparent and it is certified by the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)....

CAIRO, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu Al-Gheit expressed on Sunday his country's concern over the recent developments in Somalia and the attempts of warring parties to control more positions by force. In a press release after meeting special envoy of U.N. secretary general Francois Fall, Abul-Gheit called on the Somali government and the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) to heed to the language of dialogue, rather than force, and implement the agreed-upon accords in the recent Khartoum round of talks particularly refraining from use of force. The minister told Fall Egypt was very interested in the continuation of Arab League-sponsored dialogue between the Somali interim government and the UIC. Egypt participated in the dialogue since its very beginning, Abul-Gheit added, highlighting the responsibility of all international and regional players to support the Somali peace talks....

CAIRO: Egypt yesterday blamed the Darfur rebels for insecurity in the vast region of western Sudan and said any agreement on implementing a UN Security Council resolution should take into account Khartoum's reservations. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said in a statement that the principal culprits were the rebel groups who refused to sign a peace agreement for Darfur in May. "The parties which did not sign the agreement (are) those primarily responsible for the current deterioration of the security situation," the Foreign Ministry statement said. The only signatories were the Sudanese government and one faction of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement, which took up arms in 2003 to demand a greater share of power for Darfur. Other rebel groups said the deal was inadequate....

BEIJING -(Dow Jones)- Egypt expects to get $7.5 billion in foreign direct investment this year, almost double last year's figure, and $10 billion next year, said Egypt's Minister of Trade and Industry, Rachid Mohamed Rachid. The forecast for this year is higher than what Egypt's Investment Minister Mahmoud Mohieldin gave in March, when he said FDI into Egypt would likely grow 15% to 20% this year from the $3.9 billion seen in 2005. Such growth comes after Egypt introduced a broad package of reforms in 2005, including slashing corporate taxes by half, cutting import tariffs by 40% and pushing through a major privatization program. Meanwhile, Chinese investment in Egypt will likely reach about $700 million over the next 18 months, said Rachid during the China Business Summit organized in Beijing by the World Economic Forum....

Prague, Aug 29 (CTK) - The Czech Republic is flooded by migrants from Egypt who are seeking asylum in the country, the daily Pravo writes today. More than 300 Egyptians have arrived in the Czech Republic in July and August, while in January only one case of Egyptian citizen seeking asylum in the Czech Republic was registered by the Interior Ministry asylum and migration policy department, the paper says.
