Winger Aaron Lennon later followed him out of the squad with a knee injury. Striker Darren Bent misses out due to a hamstring problem and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been given leave of absence as he is due to become a father this week. England boss Steve McClaren has recalled Scott Parker for next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Macedonia and Croatia. Parker, who had been banished to the international wilderness for the last two and half years, is seen as a direct replacement for injured midfielder Owen Hargreaves. There is no recall for David Beckham, despite injury robbing McClaren of Aaron Lennon and Joe Cole. Beckham remains frozen out as the new England boss looks to make his mark. Wayne Rooney returns after serving his international ban, following his red card against Portugal in the World Cup. With the Manchester United hitman back, Darren Bent drops down into the Under-21s. McClaren is able to welcome back the defensive trio Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Ledley King to add some steel to his side....

Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 1:12:43 AM by Blog57 Team
England have played down reports that James Anderson and Liam Plunkett could make loan moves in order to play county cricket before the end of the season. The pair are on the mend after lengthy injury lay-offs and want to be part of the squad to tour Australia. But England media spokesman James Avery told the BBC that any loan move would depend on their current fitness. The entire squad will undergo physicals at Loughborough on Monday and Tuesday before the Ashes squad is announced. Anderson is unlikely to play in Lancashire's two remaining Championship fixtures as the Red Rose county bid to win the title for the first time since they were joint champions with Surrey in 1950. And Durham may take a similar view about Plunkett as they prepare for what may be a relegation decider against Yorkshire at Headingley, starting on 20 September....
