| | | Be grown-up about adult entertainment | | Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 1:10:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | After nearly 20 years of avoidance and passing the buck, it's time for us to be adults about adult entertainment. Referendum 1, if approved, would continue us down a road of avoidance and delay, costing the city time and money on an issue that most Seattleites do not see as a problem. I urge you to reject Referendum 1. Demanding bright lighting, adding a 4-foot rule and removing direct tipping at adult entertainment venues will solve nothing. The clubs do not cause crime. The only tangible results that Seattle will see if these new rules are enacted is that the few clubs that remain in this city will be shut down and people who want to enjoy this form of entertainment will be prevented from doing so. Seattle's adult entertainment clubs already are strictly regulated, serve no alcohol and have a long history of peaceful existence in this city.... | |

| | | Entertainment Briefly | | Posted Tuesday, October 17, 2006 11:11:59 AM by Blog57 Team | | BUSAN, South Korea - It's that time of the year when South Korea's entertainment elite descend upon a southern beach resort town for the country's flagship film event, the Pusan International Film Festival. But this year the toast of the town isn't a Korean director or actor, it's Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau. Lau is one of Pusan's honored guests this year, because it named him Asian Filmmaker of the Year for his efforts in promoting new Asian film talent. In a testament to his regional appeal, the 45-year-old actor has been mobbed wherever he goes, from the very moment he landed in Busan on Wednesday. People gawked and took pictures while he lined up to clear immigration. Walking the red carpet at the opening ceremony Thursday, Lau drew screams as loud as those prompted by Korean stars.... | |

So the news that Jackson - as opposed to, say, Roman Polanski - is turning his attention to video games is no big surprise. He's already producing a film version of "Halo," and Microsoft has announced that he'll be creating two new projects for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. We're just not sure if we can call them "games." One was described by Microsoft as "the next great chapter in the Halo universe" - one that will come after the long anticipated "Halo 3" and the newly announced "Halo Wars" strategy game. Jackson's second project will be "an entirely original property targeted at bringing new audiences into the captivating world of interactive entertainment," Microsoft said.... | |
