The Empress was late for her bath. Her maids had filled her bath tub with steaming hot water and crushed rose petals — just the way she liked it. When she finally came, her bathwater had cooled. The terrified maids, expecting a reprimand from her were surprised by her interest in a thin film of oil on the water surface. Aspen - The ambiance in the Caribou Club dining room early on this Saturday night is perfect. The six-piece place settings are perfectly positioned. Glasses and plates bask in the reflected glow of antler chandeliers. As the evening advances, tables in the 100- seat room begin to fill. A muted conversational buzz emerges as guests are seated. The room is coming to life. No one seems to notice as the man in a blue blazer, white shirt open at the neck, saunters in. He has an apricot tan, brush cut and Pepsodent smile. He is preceded by a retinue of pert companions. George Hamilton has arrived at his center table for eight. Hamilton and other celebrities are part of the reason that the 16-year-old Caribou Club - now under new management - remains the "it" place for Aspen's real and faux glitterati....
