| Rossi is unlikely to ever don a USA jersey. | | Posted Saturday, November 11, 2006 7:21:59 PM by Blog57 Team | | PARIS (Saturday, Friday, November 10, 2006) -- Giuseppe Rossi in a USA shirt? Dream on. The dual United States-Italy citizen and Manchester United player (currently on loan to Newcastle United) now appears even further from team USA's grasp than ever before. After the World Cup, there was much speculation that the New Jersey-born striker would choose to play for the U.S. instead of taking his chances with the Azzurri. The thinking was that since Italy tends to only select players plying their trade in the domestic Serie A, a player in the English Premier League (such as Rossi) would be overlooked. This was true until this recent summer's Calciopoli scandal rocked the Italian soccer scene. Since the demolition of the Juventus team sent some of Italy's best abroad, now coach Roberto Donadoni is forced to look beyond Serie A to make his selections.... | |

| | | RSL close out season vs. Chivas USA | | Posted Saturday, October 14, 2006 1:02:52 PM by Blog57 Team | | A week after securing the first playoff berth in the club's short history, Chivas USA could head into their season finale with a chance to take second place in the Western Conference and home-field advantage in a potential semifinal series against Houston Dynamo. However, if that's the case, then Real Salt Lake will have seen their playoff dreams dashed - that would mean a Colorado Rapids win Saturday in Houston, and Real would be eliminated. However, if Dynamo win Saturday, then RSL must defeat Chivas to sneak into the postseason in the final game of the 2006 season. A draw in Houston, and Real's playoff hopes are also over, while Chivas will go into the finale knowing they will be taking on Dynamo in the conference semifinals. REFEREE: Brian Hall. The segment has enjoyed a huge sales boost this year amid high gasoline prices, added safety features, and more vehicle choices. Small cars will account for 31.5 percent of the total passenger car market, up one percentage point from last year. Market research firm AutoPacific predicts that the market share of small cars will continue to climb through 2010. "Small cars and CUVs are going to rule," says George Pipas, market analyst for Ford Motor. That's bittersweet news for Detroit, he adds, because 72 percent of small cars sold are international brands. .... | |

| | | USA's latest loss reflects on US development model | | Posted Saturday, September 09, 2006 1:18:49 AM by Blog57 Team | | I promised two days ago that I was finished talking about international basketball until next year's NBA draft. Well, I lied. Here are some more thoughts on the recent FIBA World Championship, as it relates to NCAA basketball. If I were a very good college or high school star or a college coach, I would take note of what just happened in the World Championship to Team USA. A young, talented team of NBA stars, including the MVP of the NBA Finals -- formerly known as the "world championship" -- was just defeated by a group of players almost no one in America had ever heard of. It should show once again that skill level and basketball savvy can often negate great talent. No one should be surprised by this, because we see it every year when a No. 12 seed knocks off a No.... | |
